About Psalterium

Psalterium is a digital home for the 150 Psalms in the Roman Catholic tradition. Each day it opens a single psalm for prayer, presented verbatim in the Douay-Rheims (Challoner) translation with the Latin Vulgate alongside, so that the ancient words can be read, heard, and prayed without distraction.

Every psalm is accompanied by three wings of wisdom: its historical background, Catholic theological commentary drawn from the Fathers and Doctors of the Church, and its place in the sacred liturgy. The Divine Office page follows the four-week Psalter of the Liturgy of the Hours, offering the psalms appointed for Lauds, Vespers, and Compline according to the current liturgical week. A guided Lectio Divina leads the reader through reading, meditation, prayer, and contemplation, and a private journal records each psalm prayed.

Psalterium is made for anyone who wishes to pray the Psalms as the Church has prayed them for two thousand years — laity and religious, catechumens and lifelong Catholics, students of Scripture and those simply seeking words for joy, sorrow, or trust. It is free to use and requires no account.

It is built and maintained by a small group of Catholic laypeople who love the Psalter and wanted a quiet, beautiful place to return to it each day. The work is sustained entirely by the free offerings of those who find it nourishing.
